Twenty Six Orphans
Without elder elephants to guide them, these orphans navigated the challenges of survival, forming their own social structures and learning behaviors essential for their species. Their resilience laid the foundation for a thriving elephant population in Akagera, which has grown significantly over the decades.
26 ORPHANS
In 1975, Akagera National Park in Rwanda became the new home for 26 young elephants, all under the age of eight, translocated from Bugesera to mitigate human-wildlife conflict and restore the species to the park.
